Getting ready to leave again

After a period of calm and rehabilitation, Mike is now getting ready to leave again.

Mike’s finger tips have recuperated well since his operation at the beginning of May, when the frost bitten parts of his finger tips were removed. Now, due to the fact that they are still rather sensitive, he bandages them only during the day when he trains and works with his equipment.

Mike has taken this opportunity to see suppliers and review his equipment, making one or two minor adjustments. Also, quite some time has been spent in France getting his boat ready for his trip to the Great North. Control, cleaning, repainting, and other minor reparations are necessary to prepare it for the extreme conditions it will soon be experiencing.

New plans - A brief rundown...

Mike’s plans have now changed slightly due to the hotter summer temperatures. He now plans to leave from the North Cape in the beginning of August. On his boat he will sail across the Greenland Sea arriving at the East Coast of Greenland. Leaving his boat with an experienced skipper, he will traverse the ice cap of Greenland reaching the west coast and meeting up once again with his boat. From here he will sail across the Davis Strait.

Once at the NW territories on Canada he will leave the boat and continue along the coastline with a sea kayak. Leaving the kayak at Coppermine, on the Canadian /Alaskian border, Mike will continue on foot through to Alaska until he reaches the Bering Strait.

The method of crossing the Bering Strait will be assessed at later date. It may well be iced over when Mike arrives.

Siberia, during the winter. Another story altogether. Again he faces the extreme cold. A six month traverse in a harsh environment.

Itchy feet!!

Mike feels good and is ready to leave again. After his Pole experience he says, “I am 200% ready to leave.”  “Can’t wait to get moving again!"

We will once again start updating the site at regular intervals and hope you will follow Mike and his progress with us.
